The spectacular wonders of the ocean

Werner Lau offers two spectacular diving areas on the Filitheyo house reef that can truly emphasize the beauty and pristine nature of this part of the Maldives — the house reef and the wreck on the house reef.

House Reef

The House Reef, which drops from the surface to about 90 meters, serves as the underwater abode ofYellow Snappers & Divermarvelous creatures as such mantas, whale sharks, and, of course, the breathtaking reefs that, for many, remain indescribable even after numerous return trips.

This diving area, with seven entry points, is agood beginning point for amateur divers, although it can provide some necessary challenges for the experienced divers as well. Divers here can go unsupervised, although those who are not adept in diving can get the assistance of Werner Lau’s reliable diving teachers and trainors.

The Wreck

Meanwhile, the wreck on the house reef, located at north side of the Filitheyo Island, is a majestic diving site that shows how the marine flora and fauna can Wreckadjust when such a structure sinks underwater. The wreck, the KM AGRO MINA II, is in an upright position, so access is easy and safe for all divers. Despite being a recent wreckage (2009), the KM AGRO MINA II is already housing some of the more majestic creatures of the sea. To date, divers have already seen nurse sharks and stingrays in the wreckage—and it’s likely that more will be seen in the area in the near future.

For those who want to experience the ocean in a different, less intimate manner, the center also offers spot diving. Four diving boats depart every day from the center, from nine in the morning until two thirty in the afternoon. The distance of the diving spots from the center vary—from five minute boat rides to a full hour. These spots vary in difficulty—up to 30, all in all—so you can definitely find something worth trying regardless of your diving experience and aptitude. There are also weekly day trips which will show the major spots on the atoll’s west side.

A prime diving center

The diving center, one of the best in the area, is designed by professionals with the needs and wants of both amateur and advanced divers in mind. The center is spacious and it provides guests with all the necessary equipment tools. Those looking for a special experience can try the Scubapro—underwater scooters that will definitely change how you will see the vast treasures of the Indian Ocean. Werner Lau assures guests that their equipment and tools are modern and state of the art, all the more making the diving experience unforgettable. Nitrox is also free!

As for the training, Werner Lau offers the whole range of PADI diving courses. These courses begin at the lagoon, which is only one and half meters deep, slowly heading to the more difficult areas of the atoll. The classes are very intimate (two participants per instructor) to allow learners to enjoy the courses with no pressure.
